Celebrity Firefighter Chefs Get Ready to Heat Things Up at Potluck Café Dinner Featuring Wild Horse Canyon Wines
Vancouver, BC — March 13, 2007
The Vancouver firefighters who compiled the
popular Pot on the Stove Celebrity Cookbook will doff their firefighting gear and don
aprons to serve a gourmet meal at the Potluck Café on Vancouver's Downtown Eastside
on March 30, 2007.
The event will raise funds to nourish some of Vancouver's neediest residents.
"We're extremely excited to have Vancouver's firefighters - already heroes in their own
right for their courageous work - donate their time and culinary skills to such a great
cause," said Potluck's acting executive director Heather O'Hara. "This kind of support
helps Potluck attain its goal of improving the lives of this community's residents through
meal programs and employment training."
Each guest will receive a copy of the firefighters' cookbook, Pot on the Stove, conceived
as a fundraiser for BC Children's Hospital. It is a compilation of favourite recipes from
celebrities such as Sarah McLachlan, Michael Buble, Jamie Oliver, Trevor Linden,
Richard Dean Anderson, Steve Nash, Rob Feenie, Tojo and many others who share a
Vancouver connection and a passion for food.
Brian Bogdanovich, a Vancouver firefighter and Potluck dinner organizer, said: "I am
delighted to help bring this event to life and to support an organization that is doing so
much to help this community with its challenges. The fundraiser gives us a chance to
help people in a different way than we usually do and we are pleased to be a part of it."
The menu features Fresh Pacific Salmon with an Orange Basil Sauce. Plenty of other
treats will be on offer to please the palate during the evening, along with fine wine
pairings from the Wild Horse Canyon wines.
Wild Horse Canyon wines embody the West Coast identity. Bottled and produced in the
Okanagan, Wild Horse Canyon wines are crafted with quality grapes sourced from
British Columbia, Washington, and California. The winemaker works with the best from
these grape growing areas in order to craft exquisite wines. Each region is selected
because of its soils, climate and attributes. The results are balanced, fruit-forward wines:
lush robust reds, and clean refreshing whites.
This event is the latest in a series of celebrity chef fundraising dinners supported by
Wild Horse Canyon that have featured some of Vancouver's finest chefs including Girls
Who Dish! authors Karen Barnaby (Fish House), Caren McSherry (Gourmet
Warehouse), Glenys Morgan (Miele Showroom), Lesley Stowe, Lesley Stowe Fine
Foods, Margaret Chisholm, Culinary Capers and Mary MacKay, Terra Breads. Frederic
Couton, Executive Chef of The Cannery also donated his time and culinary talents to a
Potluck Café fundraiser.
